Piccolo was an enemy at the start of the show. In the first few episodes, Goku and Piccolo team up to defeat a strong foe. Piccolo then trained Goku's son, Gohan, how to be a fighter. From that point on, Piccolo continued to help out Goku and the other Z fighters to fight for justice.
