Ethics Across the Curriculum

The Kegley Institute of Ethics’s Ethics Across the Curriculum (EAC) program integrates ethics education into all disciplines on campus. It involves both a faculty professional development program and events for students on campus, such as the CSUB Ethics Bowl.

Faculty Professional Development Program

KIE offers several workshops each year that teach faculty members strategies for incorporating ethics into their courses. See the below links for example ethics lessons from CSUB faculty members and online resources for incorporating ethics into courses.

Eligibility: All CSUB faculty members, whether full- or part-time, are eligible to participate.

Registration: Please contact Nate Olson, KIE Associate Director, at nolson@csub.edu for information on upcoming workshops.

Ethics Bowl

KIE organizes Ethics Bowl debate opportunities for CSUB students and community members. In an ethics bowl, students debate contemporary ethical issues and are scored by a group of judges. There are several opportunities to participate in Ethics Bowl:

  • Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl: The CSUB Ethics Bowl team (coached by Dr. Nate Olson) competes each fall in the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl.
  • Prison education: KIE organizes an annual Ethics Bowl between CSUB students and incarcerated students at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, CA.
  • CSUB Ethics Bowl: In collaboration with Campus Programming, KIE organizes an on-campus Ethics Bowl each spring. Different student groups compete against each other.

For more information about any of these opportunities, contact Nate Olson, KIE Associate Director, at nolson@csub.edu.
